Text Box: Luther Home of Mercy and Vail Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center have created a unique equine-based day program for adults living with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities. Opening in May of 2006, the program provides a unique, holistic approach to daily activities driven by the interests and preferences of participants.

Set in a beautiful, spacious country setting, a unique array of on-site social, recreational and even vocational opportunities are offered. The center is divided into various hubs and participants are encouraged to select those activities that most interest them. Hubs include gardening and agriculture with culinary activities
related to the crops grown, productive arts and crafts which will serve to stock the
on-site gift shop, horse grooming and care, stable care, therapeutic riding, and
computer learning. Additional activities are designed and offered based on the
interests of participants.

Small group outings and activities supplement those offered at the program site. Trips emphasize both educational and recreational opportunities such as movies, theatre, festivals, dining out, art museum, zoo, planetarium, sports activities and more.

Operating Monday through Friday, participants may choose to attend either on a full-time or part-time basis. In addition, specific work groups have extended hours to complete assigned work responsibilities and staff special events held at the center.

The Day Program at Vail Meadows
accepts various funding sources.
